  1. Last night was our first book discussion. The Art of Detection is more than just a detective novel it is a story within a story explorating two murders in different time periods (1920's within the supposed Holmes manuscript and present day murder of the manuscripts owner); evocotive descriptions of modern day San Francisco; brave exploration of a professional woman who successfully juggles a very demanded job as a detective with her family life with same sex partner and their child; and the clever juxtaposition of fact and fantasy.

Some of the questions discussed included:

    1. "Everyone from California is from somewhere else, which means everyone in the state has had to reinvent themselves"...Do you think that is true?
The consensus was that most individuals do reinvent themselves, whether from California or elsewhere, do become changed to their surrounding depending upon their locales.
